Department of Management

The Department of Management was established at IHM on September 1 of the 1999/2000 academic year. On the same date, the university library for students and educators was founded by members of this department. (On December 1, 2003 the library for students was made independent, and from this time, the department has managed only the section of the library for university educators). In 2002, members of the department established an archive of successfully defended dissertations, which had previously been in the space of the department itself, and is now at the full disposal of students during office hours. In the same year, when interest was expressed by students, the department branched out to offer psychological counseling services, whose advising activities continue to grow. Department members handle instruction for full and part-time studies at both the bachelor’s and master’s level. They lecture and lead seminars in major fields of study at the bachelor’s level (Hotel Management, Destination Management in the Travel and Tourism Industry, Marketing Communication in the Service Industry, Leisure Time Management, Management of Transportation Services), and also at the master’s level (Hotel and Spa Management and Marketing Communication). They advise and act as opponents for bachelor’s and master’s final dissertations by students of the school. They sit on committes for final state bachelor’s and master’s exams which take place at the school. The department methodically and professionally cooperates with partner companies and is involved with experts from the hotel industry for publication activities.

A member of the department is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal for research and information – Czech Hospitality and Tourism Papers at IHM, and the director of doctoral studies at the University of Economics (VŠE). Department members publish in the above mentioned journal and act as peer reviewers for select articles.
