Information for IHM students

in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic (as of October 8, 2020) 

With regard to the very unfavourable development of the epidemic situation throughout the Czech Republic in connection with the spread of coronavirus SARS CoV-2 causing infectious disease COVID-19, the Government of the Czech Republic approved the crisis measure of the Ministry of Health of October 8, 2020 No. 997 concerning the restriction of university operations and the prohibition of personal presence of students at classes during university studies in the period from October 12 to October 25, 2020. For this reason, the Institute of Hospitality Management in Prague (IHM) is taking the following measures, with effect from October 9, 2020.

2. ACADEMIC PART

Obligation of personal presence at the workplace

In the period from October 12 to October 23, 2020, no academic worker needs to be present in person at the workplace, however, personal presence at the workplace is possible for everyone during the operation of the IHM building, especially with regard to technical equipment and the need to fully provide distance teaching for students. Teaching and office hours can take place remotely in full even outside the workplace.

Provision of teaching

Teaching will take place online in a distance form while respecting the established schedules (lectures, seminars, exercises). Teaching will take place synchronously (video conferencing) and asynchronously (recorded videos). It is completely inadmissible to replace online distance teaching only with remote access.

It is allowed to shorten the scope of seminars and limit the scope of teaching for subjects with professional teaching, which are the following subjects guaranteed by the Department of Hospitality Management:

  • HO041 Gastronomy – Service / HOE41 Gastronomy – Service;
  • HO058 Managing Catering Operations / HOE58 Managing Catering Operations;
  • HO048 Beverages / HOE48 Beverages;
  • HO062 Special Gastronomy – Production;
  • HO063 Special Gastronomy - Services;
  • H0064 Brewing and Beer Sommelier;
  • HO066 Wine-Sommelier / HOE66 Wine-Sommelier;
  • HO069 Mixed Beverages Production Technology;
  • HO072 Catering;
  • HO077 Dietary Catering;
  • HO079 Proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle;
  • HO165 Enogastronomy.

Replacement of professional teaching will be carried out in the school building as soon as the current epidemic situation allows. For all other subjects, teaching takes place in full without restrictions.

Office hours

All internal academic workers of IHM are obliged to continue to have office hours in the period from October 12 to October 23, 2020, in the range of 2 x 90 minutes per week, exclusively remotely (on-line). External academic workers should allow students to consult remotely (online) for 30 minutes per week. Consultations concerning the processing of final qualification theses (bachelor's theses, diploma theses) take place exclusively remotely (on-line).

Practice

Students' participation in the practice is prohibited in the period from October 12 to October 25, 2020.

Testing

In the period from October 12 to October 30, 2020, it is forbidden to test students in their personal presence in the school building. Testing until the end of the extended substitute testing period is possible only remotely (on-line) and all teachers are obliged to announce at least 1 testing term in above-mentioned period from each subject they taught in the past semesters for passing the examination / obtaining credit remotely, which must be demonstrably published in the IHM Information System.

Credits and examinations registration for students

In the period from October 12 to October 23, 2020, the evaluation of subjects is not recorded in the study reports (indexes) for students by academic workers in the school building.

Enrolment sheet on the topic of the bachelor's / diploma thesis

The student can send a scanned hand-signed enrolment sheet generated in IHM IS to his / her supervisor, who will sign it and submit it to the Study Department.

Diploma and diploma supplement, study reports

The diploma and the diploma supplement are issued by the Study Department from  October 1, 2020 to a specific graduate against a handwritten signature on receipt of the document; it is also possible to issue a diploma and a diploma supplement on behalf of a person on the basis of a verified power of attorney.

Study Reports (indexes) will be handed over to first-year students by the Study Department from November 2, 2020.

Observation and quality evaluation

Due to the fact that IHM is obliged to evaluate the quality of teaching realized by distance teaching, all Heads of Departments and the Secretary for the English study program are ordered to conduct at least 3 online observations in selected subjects at their own discretion in the period from October 12 to October 23, 2020 and to submit observation records in electronic form no later than October 27, 2020 to the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs PhDr. Jan Mace, Ph.D. and the Vice-Rector for Quality and Development doc. Mgr. Ing. Karel Chadt, CSc.

2. OPERATION PART

Operation of the school building

Operation of the school building at Svídnická 506/1, 181 00 Prague 8, for students, workers and the public is provided from Monday to Thursday from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm, which makes it possible to provide teaching according to schedules. Every Friday, the school building is completely closed. 

Open Day

The open day scheduled for October 15, 2020 is cancelled without compensation.

Operating hours of individual sections

The operating hours of all sections remain unchanged. The study department, library, study room, RevPAR Café and foreign department are open to students, employees, graduates and the public during standard operating hours. All operating sections operate without restrictions.

We hereby ask students and the public to limit their personal presence in the interior of the school building to the maximum possible extent for the period of the declared state of emergency in the entire territory of the Czech Republic from October 5, 2020 to 30 days.

The decisions of the CEO and the Rector of the IHM come into force and effect on the day of issue and were discussed and approved remotely on October 8, 2020.
