Lifelong Learning Program

In accordance with law 111/1998 Sb. paragraph 60, the Institute of Hospitality Management has organized a number of courses for the Lifelong Learning Program (LLP). These courses are not part of the IHM degree programs; however, graduates of these courses are awarded certification of successful completion from IHM in cooperation with professional associations or authorities. In cases where it is possible to award credits under the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), it may be possible to transfer these credits if the student begins studying in a degree program at IHM.

The LLP is for:

  • Graduates of IHM who are interested in deepening their knowledge in the field they studied at IHM, or broaden the scope of their knowledge in other fields.
  • Persons working in the hotel, gastronomy, travel and tourism, leisure time, or transportation industries – managers of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, or other establishments in the hotel, gastronomy, travel and tourism, leisure time, or transportation industries.
  • Persons working in public administration and local or regional government, as well as managers of organizations in the field of tourism.
  • Employees of profit or non-profit businesses in the hotel, gastronomy, travel and tourism, leisure time, or transportation industries.
  • Managers and employees of all branches of business that necessarily come into contact with the various parts of the gastronomy and hotel industries (dining, gastronomy, and hotels in various cultures and situations.)
  • Principals and teachers of secondary schools where subjects from the fields of hotels, gastronomy, or travel and tourism are taught.
  • The general public and those interested in gastronomy.

Course structure

IHM offers long-term complex and single-topic courses as well as shorter courses focusing on specific issues. Course can be divided into:

  • Managerial – general and specialized – for example, courses for HR management, managers for golf clubs, hotel safety administrators, quality administrators, etc.
  • Pedagogical – specialized and instructional programs for those in working in education.
  • Gastronomy for professionals – for example, courses on molecular gastronomy, courses for those working in wine bars, sommelier and barista courses.
  • Gastronomy for the general public – various specialty cooking courses (national cuisine or with various traditional or exotic ingredients), courses for those interested in making their own wine, mixing drinks, preparing celebratory feasts, etc.
  • Specialized courses for line managers and employees in hotels, property administration, personnel, safety, and other fields where there is a need for smoothly functioning hotels or other organizations.
  • General language courses, as well as language courses specializing in communication issues in hotels, restaurants, travel agencies.

Another specialized program in the LLP is the MBA, which is organized by IHM in cooperation with the Prague International Business School of the University of Economics (VSE). More information here.

Course instructors:
Courses are taught by top-rate instructors – full and part-time teachers at IHM, as well as other adjunct instructors with extensive theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the field. Basic information about instructors is available for each program.

Where courses meet:
The main location for courses is the IHM campus at Svidnicka 506, Prague 8, which is fully equipped for this purpose. In the case of client interest (and where the classroom does not have to be specifically equipped) courses may take place at the client’s location (in-company courses) or at another agreed-upon location (external courses). Courses that can be taught off the IHM campus are marked in the catalog.
